Choosing a moving company is a big decision. Below are the questions we hear most often from Fort McMurray residents — answered honestly so you know what to expect before, during, and after your move.
How far in advance should I book a moving company?
For summer moves (May–August), we recommend booking 3–4 weeks in advance as availability fills up fast. For fall and winter moves, 1–2 weeks is usually fine. That said, we handle last-minute moves regularly — call us and we'll do our best to fit you in.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Horizon Moving is fully insured and WCB (Workers' Compensation Board) covered. Our crews are trained professionals, and your belongings are protected throughout the move.
Do you offer flat-rate pricing or charge by the hour?
We offer flat-rate quotes for most moves. This means you know exactly what you'll pay before moving day — no surprise charges for traffic, stairs, or extra time. We think that's the fairest way to do business.
What areas do you serve?
We serve all of Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo — including Thickwood, Timberlea, Beacon Hill, Parsons Creek, Abasand, Eagle Ridge, and surrounding communities. We also do long-distance moves to Edmonton, Calgary, and across Alberta and Canada.
Can you move specialty items like pianos or pool tables?
Yes. We have the equipment and experience to move pianos, pool tables, large safes, gym equipment, and other specialty items safely. Just let us know when you're getting your quote so we can plan accordingly.
Do you provide packing services?
Yes — we offer full packing and unpacking as an add-on service. We bring all the materials (boxes, tape, bubble wrap, packing paper) and handle everything so you don't have to. It's a popular choice for busy families and seniors.
What if something gets damaged during my move?
We take great care with every item we move, but accidents can happen. Our crew handles your belongings with professional care and we're fully insured. If anything is damaged, contact us right away and we'll work with you to make it right.
Do you offer storage?
Yes. If there's a gap between your move-out and move-in dates, we offer short and long-term storage solutions. Ask about storage options when you get your quote.
Do you move in winter?
Absolutely. We operate year-round, 7 days a week, including during Fort McMurray winters. We take precautions to protect your belongings from cold and moisture, and our crew is experienced moving in winter conditions.
How do I pay?
We accept cash, e-transfer, and credit card. Payment is due on completion of the move unless other arrangements are made in advance.
